Get Started
Students need to PLAN AHEAD when deciding to study abroad.
Here is a checklist of things to do:
- Work with your academic adviser to plan a schedule of study that will make enrollment in a study abroad program possible.
- See Katherine Carr, study abroad coordinator, in Voorhees 301, for help in exploring your options for studying abroad.
- Discuss your plans with your parent(s)/guardian(s).
- Select a program.
- Apply for chosen program before deadlines – Feb. 15 and Sept. 15, depending upon the program.
- After acceptance, attend study abroad orientation sessions.
- Apply for a passport and necessary visas.
- Be sure you have completed the FAFSA form and met with the financial aid office to discuss your consortial agreement.
- Arrange with divisional deans and the registrar's office for transfer of academic credits.
- Make housing arrangements for when you return home.
- Arrange for adequate medical insurance.
- See a doctor and a dentist; discuss any issues concerning extended travel.
- Make travel arrangements, including purchasing an International Student Identity
Card (ISIC) from STA Travel, rail passes, etc.
- Complete the checklist in the Study Abroad Handbook and return to Katherine Carr with necessary pre-departure paperwork.
- Have fun and be safe!
