Welcome

Carroll’s history program attracts both traditional and returning students whose diverse professional goals include secondary education, public history, law and the library sciences. Above all, students and faculty share a desire to engage the past on its own terms, and use historical experience to understand current societal relationships. The nine-course major encourages students to participate in the collection, interpretation and presentation of historical information. As they master analytical and interpersonal communication skills, students are encouraged to pursue their own interests through research-driven seminars, independent studies, internships and study abroad opportunities. Many history majors also pursue second majors or minors in fields such as business, education and the fine arts.

The George F. Kennan History Fellowship awards outstanding students a scholarship and the opportunity to work for history faculty.
